A few weeks ago I was searching iTunes for indie music and I came across Los Angeles band Foster the People. Their song Helena Beat was free download and I immediately snatched it up. I immediately loved the vibe, their array of instruments and lead singer Mark Foster’s cool, airy voice. Their sound reminded me of Empire of the Sun, Passion Pit, Vampire Weekend and the likes.
In May, Foster the People released their debut album Torches. I was immediately hooked by the great melodies in Pumped Up Kicks, Waste, Houdini and Warrant. The album opens really strong with the loud percussion and great lyrics of Helena Beat and continues in form with Pumped Up Kicks. But the album somewhat fades away, or more properly the later songs do not reach that same level with the exception of Houdini.
Foster the People has me hooked at the moment and I am excited for what the future holds with them. Hope you guys agree and enjoy my favorite tune.
