MillionYoung – Replicants
Summer has hit. And it is time to chill. A couple of months ago, I came across MillionYoung, the stage name for Florida based musician Mike Diaz. In January he released his debut LP Replicants, a year after releasing the Be So True EP. Diaz incorporates synth and dance rhythms into his chillwave sound, perfect for either sipping some cold drinks while lounging outside or dancing the summer night away at a club.
Overall the LP is solid and has a great vibe. It has 13 tracks and lasts just a little over 40 minutes. One song that stands out is “Perfect Eyes” with its’ mixture of 80s electric synth pop, acoustic guitar and African drums. Also “Gravity Feels” which begins with subdued rhythms and a clam beat. Suddenly, halfway through, it bursts into a great rock song with guitar and drums and lovely lyrics. Another song I find it hard to stop listening to is “On On” which has a great electric sound, chord changes, an awesome guitar and keyboard riff and features soothing lyrics that sound like they could be from an angel. Track 6 'Forerunner' adds to the calm nature of the album and is definitley worth a few listens.
What I enjoy the most from MillionYoung’s debut album is the title track, “Replicants” which has chilling romantic lyrics about lost love and a captivating shift in melody. I really am in love with the video too! Enjoy!
